چکیده

We estimate the high energy neutrino flux from the giant flare of SGR 180620 on December 27, 2004, which irradiated Earth with a gamma-ray flux ∼ 10 times larger than the most luminous gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) ever detected. The Antarctic Cherenkov neutrino detector AMANDA was on-line during the flare, and may either have detected high energy neutrinos for the first time from a cosmic point source, or put constraints on the flare mechanism of magnetars. If TeV neutrinos are detected, one would expect also detectable EeV cosmic rays and possibly TeV gamma-ray emission in coincidence. Subject headings: cosmic rays — gamma rays: bursts — gamma rays: theory — stars: individual (SGR1806-20) — stars: neutron

Contamination of short GRBs by giant magnetar flares: Significance of downward revision in distance to SGR 1806–20

We highlight how the downward revision in the distance to the star cluster associated with SGR1806–20 by Bibby et al. reconciles the apparent low contamination of BATSE short GRBs by intense flares from extragalactic magnetars without recourse to modifying the frequency of one such flare per 30 years per Milky Way galaxy. We also discuss the variety in progenitor initial masses of magnetars bas...

TeV photons and Neutrinos from giant soft-gamma repeaters flares

During the last 35 years three giant flares were observed from so-called Soft Gamma Repeaters (SGR’s). They are assumed to be associated with star-quakes of pulsars accelerating electrons and, possibly, protons to high energy in the huge magnetic fields as inferred from the observations. Because of this and the observation of non-thermal emission it has been speculated that they may be cosmic r...

Magnetars ’ Giant Flares : the case of SGR 1806 - 20

We first review on the peculiar characteristics of the bursting and flaring activity of the Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters and Anomalous Xray Pulsars. We then report on the properties of the SGR 1806-20’s Giant Flare occurred on 2004 December 27th, with particular interest on the pre and post flare intensity/hardness correlated variability. We show that these findings are consistent with the picture ...

Diffuse high energy neutrinos and cosmic rays from hyperflares of soft-gamma repeaters

We calculate the diffuse high energy (TeV PeV) neutrino emission from hyperflares of Soft-Gamma Repeaters (SGRs), like the hyperflare risen from SGR 1806-20 on December 27 of 2004, within the framework of the fireball model. The fireball model for gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) can explain well the main features of this hyperflare and the subsequent multi-frequency afterglow emission. The expected rat...
